A structured framework to help you decide if you are ready to hire, and what role to fill first.
List everything that is currently breaking, bottlenecked, or burning you out. Be brutally honest. Include tasks you hate, tasks you are bad at, and tasks that eat time but do not earn money. The goal is to see where a hire would remove the most pain.
For each potential role you could hire, estimate the impact. How many hours per week would it free up? What revenue could you generate with that freed time? Which clients or projects are you losing because you cannot keep up?
Go through each item honestly. You do not need to check every box, but if most are unchecked, you may not be financially ready yet.
Before committing to a full-time hire, consider starting with a contractor. It is lower risk, faster to set up, and lets you test the role before making it permanent. Write out the pros and cons for your specific situation.
Based on your pain points, impact analysis, and budget, rank your potential hires from most urgent to least. Your first hire should be the role that removes the biggest bottleneck or unlocks the most revenue.
