Script Level 7

Boundary-Setting Email Scripts

Ready-to-adapt email scripts for the uncomfortable conversations that protect your time, your scope, and your sanity.

Section 1
After-Hours Messages

Use this script when a client messages you outside your working hours and you need to reset the expectation without being cold. Send it the next morning during your working hours. Do not reply at 11pm to say you do not reply at 11pm. That defeats the purpose.

Section 2
Scope Creep Response

Use this when a client asks for something that was not in the original agreement. Stay calm and professional. Reference the scope document. Offer to do the extra work, but make it clear it is additional. Never do free work and resent the client for it. That is a you problem, not a them problem.

Section 3
Late Payment Follow-Up

Use this when a payment is overdue. Be polite but firm. State the facts: what is owed, when it was due, and what happens next. Do not apologise for following up on money you are owed. You did the work. You deserve to be paid on time.

Section 4
Unreasonable Timeline Request

Use this when a client asks you to deliver work faster than is realistically possible without sacrificing quality. Do not say yes and then burn out. Propose an alternative that protects your work and your wellbeing.

Section 5
Revision Limit Reached

Use this when the client has used all their included revision rounds and is requesting more changes. Be clear about the boundary, but frame the path forward positively. Never make the client feel punished for wanting changes. Just make the cost and process transparent.
